Do I Really Need To Have Business Cards and Other Marketing Print Items?
What if you went to the doctor and he was debating with the secretary on whether she should order his stethoscope and instead of a doctor's coat, he was wearing his wife's kitchen apron. Haahhaa, I am laughing because that's who ridiculous that question sound to me when I think about.
If you want to be seen to your prospects as a legitimate business person, of course the answer to that is a resounding yes. I for one know what it's like to start a business on a shoe string budget. Initially I would write out my business info on whatever I could get my hands on to give to a prospect, napkins, looseleaf or someone else's business card. I start to realize that my prospects didn't not take me seriously because of the image I projected. I had to look at the reality of this and take stock. It's human nature to judge a book by the cover, or better yet an individual by their uniform. If your'e wearing a police officer's uniform or a nurse's uniform most people would consider it safe to guess that your uniform will be closely aligned to our occupation. So what's the uniform of a business person? Business attire, business cards, an attache' case, etc. Now of course you can still be a business person regardless of whether you possessed those things, but the perception is really what matters. Perception is usually what decision are initially based off of.
With that being said get yourself some nice business cards and maybe some other goodies that give you a more professional look.
